Origin matters?

Writing about Laleh making Swedish being inspired by Cornelis Vreeswijk reminded me of the general discussion what is "Swedish" (or any other national connection). This is a perfect example of things seldom having a clear origin. How Swedish can music really be if it is made by a person who originally isn't Swedish who is inspired by a man who originally is from Holland? He was born 1937, came to Sweden when he was 12 years old and stayed here until he died 1987, well known and loved here. Still both Vreeswijk and Laleh are at a large extent seen as Swedish. Whatever people think, they are or have done good music...so what does it matter where they are from?
