Who's world is most narrow?

From Facebook today:

Natasja: I don't know how many time I've heard/read that people using FB a lot should "go and see your friends in person or call them, get a life". Well, to me that only tells me ONE thing about them, that all their friends and people they want to see and talk to probably live within 50 km. I just made a list of the countries that are represented on MY FB list, came up with 49 countries!

Not an easy task since people move around a lot and several of my Swedish friends don't live in Sweden anymore. Many live in another country that they were born and/or raised in.

So yes, I am very happy to be able to sit by my computer and talk to people in 25 % of the countries in the world. Not that I always talk to all these people of course but they are never further away than a "like" or a comment about what they think and write.

Hjälp inte utsatta kvinnor. Eller?

"En kvinna anmäler sin man efter ett gräl. Hela tiden vet hon att hon ljugit men eftrsom att hon som brottsoffer får så mycket stöd och dessutom blir hotad av polisen att hon riskerar att förlora sina barn om hon ändrar sig historia så tar hon tillbaka först i hovrätten. Vad anser Amensty om att detta stöd till förmodade brottsoffer leder till att kvinnor som kastar ur sig anklagelser i affekt under ett gräl känner sig tvingade att hålla fast vid anklagelserna trots att de inte är sanna. Jag skulle bli mycket tacksam för ett svar.

Det finns då verkligen riktigt korkade människor. Den här Susanna verkar vara kritisk mot att Amnesty kräver uppföljning av hur man utreder våldtäktsanklagelser. "Hon fick så mycket hjälp och stöd att hon inte vågade berätta att hon ljugit", ja, vad fruktansvärt att en kvinna får hjälp och stöd när man misstänker att hon utsatts för ett allvarligt brott. Ja, ta bort hjälpen så inga kvinnor känner sig manade att anmäla brott. Smart.

The dark side of life

It's hard do see people you love hurt and there is very little you can do. Sadness, what ifs, loss, grief, figuring out how to handle things that probably couldn't have been prevented. Things one just have to live with for the rest of their lives.

My heart and mind are with these people.

Human rights violations in India

Plans by Vedanta Resources to mine bauxite in the Niyamgiri Hills of Orissa threaten the very existence of the Donghria Kondh – an indigenous community that has lived on and around the hills for centuries.

The proposed mine could have grave repercussions for their human rights to water, food, health, work and other rights as an indigenous community in respect of their traditional lands.

Vedanta’s Record

At the foot of the Niyamgiri Hills, in Lanjigarh, Vedanta Resources has already started running an alumina refinery leading to significant air and water pollution. This pollution is threatening the health and well-being of the indigenous community. Although the Orissa State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has reported serious concerns about toxic air and water contamination, this information has never been shared with local people. Despite the existing problems and widespread community concerns, there is now an attempt to expand the refinery’s capacity six-fold.

Take Action to Protect Indigenous People in Orissa, India.

Vedanta Resources and its subsidiaries – responsible for the refinery and the proposed mine – have failed to abide by internationally accepted standards in relation to the impact of business on human rights. The Governments of Orissa and India have also failed to protect the human rights of this community.

Wow! I have learned something absolutely amazing. Obviously tax payers money are MAGICAL. I didn't know that. You see, all 416 of you, they will make people spend more money in connection with the upcoming princess wedding than if she and/or her very rich father payed for it. Imagine, 1 340 931,95 magical EUROS. Isn't that cool?

N: *fniss* Fredrik steg upp på sin springare (cykel) och med sin värja i högsta hugg (plånboken) och galopperade (cyklade) genom eld och vatten (snö) till Älsklingen med pengar som användes till att köpa hoppas-det-hjälper-saker på Apokteket. Han övergav sin drottning (Zandra) och gästerna på balen (kalaset) för att vara hjälte.

Fredrik: Det är en helig plikt (nåja). Jag måste bispringa ungmöer (M) i nöd, annars blir "the lady of the lake" (från Bjuv, nära vattnet) förgrymmad (arg som fan) och krossar mitt svärd (klipper snorren av mig).
