Conclusion: it doesn't matter.
Some people seem to worry a lot about age differences but friends can be found in any age. What you have in common and can share hasn't anything to do with how many years you have lived. Considered how many people I know in my own age that I have less than little in common with or share values and opinions with, compared how many people I know and have known that are both younger and not the least older that I get along with just fine and better than fine. Life it too short for a lot of things and narrowing down possible friends because of something as trivial as age is one of those things.
