Strange Fruit

by Billie Holiday

Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true

Some day I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemondrops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?
Some day I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemondrops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

Vanilla car

There is a car in Central Europe that smells a lot like vanilla. I have a theory that the three vanilla scented things (2 trees and 1 other thing close to the ventilation) are there to cover up the dead man smell coming from the trunk ;-) But it's just a weird theory...

Wow, a new posting!

I KNOW, I haven't been so active lately....but you see, here you have a brand new posting about nothing else than that it is a new posting ;-) Happy People? Well, it's R.E.M.

Fun? Not quite.

Why do some like to provoke people just for the fun of it? Fun for the provoker but not for the provoked. If something is supposed to be considered a joke, it should be received like it.

Star Wars 1

...is not at all what this post will be about. :-) I am back, from doing nothing special except from being busy both in practice and just having a lot to think about. I should take the opportunity to say something useless for you. My email. I am a member on three e-mail lists and becoming one on another one soon, all four in connection to Amnesty. One of them is a national discussion group where subjects of more principal and even philosophical nature are discussed and the others are more of practical nature. As the group secretary of my group and being active myself aside the group activities I have quite a lot to do but I like it.

Last but not least, Jar Jar Binks is not at all as funny as he was meant to be. The old movies were a lot more amusing. I don't know what happened to Lucas, I expected more, based on the old movies. Now the huge sea monsters are coming... man they are ugly! I told you, this was not meant to be an interesting blogpost :-)

Nazi => Nazin? NO!

The person writing the Swedish subtitles in Grey's Anatomy has missed a tiiiiiny thing in both Sweden and history. "The Nazi" was translated to "Nazin" in Swedish. That almost sounds like a regular name but in another language...not the word for a very intolerant person who hates a whole bunch of people. The Nazi = nazisten. Hm... Isn't a translator supposed to translate? Or maybe this is an exception, maybe "Nazi" is not referring to Nazism? Hmm...again.

What It's Like

Everlast - What It's Like
What a melody...ahh

White Trash Beautiful

Everlast - "White Trash Beautiful"
I like the way Everlast tell stories and have nice videos to the lyrics. The melodies and his voice are also good things.
Sorry for the sound, it is better in another video but that one is not possible to put here, it's "enabled".

"Move It" for integration

I was surfing, looking for things to do and I found this. It is about volunteer work and they mention something that I think sounds quite smart. They have a group for youngsters and every week they visit some kind of associations and participate in their activities. It is often cultural or sport associations. Their aim is to make the young people get to know the Swedish society and to get meaningful and positive spare time. Sweden has a unique associations culture and they want to use that as a way to get people out of their alienation. This is also a way for them to get to know other Swedes, learn more Swedish and get an informal connections.

I think they have a point using associations because Sweden IS a country full of them. In some countries there are many activities connected to the school, but here you have a large range of courses and things you can do. This is also said to be a part of why Sweden is so successful within the music industry (we're the third largest music exporting country after the US and England) since you can easily start playing an instrument when you start school. My brother played a whole bunch of sports (football, wrestling, athletics), my sister practiced ballet and played the recorder (blockflöjt) and I wrestled for a while, played the violin several years and danced folk dance and I have been active in Amnesty for years now. Unfortunately none of us have continued with either thing and getting rich out of it ;-)

Run Run Run

Phoenix - "Run Run Run"
One of my favorite songs. I love the melody and his voice.
