Amnesty seminar in the woods

Busy days these days. I spent the weekend in Stockholm at a seminar in the woods, learning quite a few things about Amnesty (new campaign and changes within the organisation), the right to housing, proper care for pregnant women, being creative and many other things. There was also many and good conversations.

The mansion where the seminars were held and where we ate.

House for sleeping.

Outside the mansion...

...and the view from it during dinner.

Attentive listeners during one of the seminars.

My breakfast, very tasty.

Breakfast in the morning sun.

Aliens come from Galapagos

Now I know where the creators of the Alien movies got their inspiration! I am watching a program about the Galapagos islands right now. They are showing the only lizards that are specialized on a marine life, the sea iguana. They live mainly on land but eat mostly green and red Algiers on the bottom of the outside the coast. After ten minutes in the cold water, they have to get back on land since their muscles get stiff when cold. When they swam but to the surface, they looked JUST like the aliens when they are swimming, with their arms, slim body and long tail.

What interesting islands with flourishing life despite the hard living conditions! I would like to go there some day and learn more about what it could teach us when it comes to species, change and evolution.

Rusty

THAT is an old can! It's still laying on the train tracks. What did the person who threw it once upon a time think, that it would turn into stone after a while?

Storm swisch swisch

Storm...and a big one here in Sweden! 2 killed by falling trees so far, 9 and about 60 years old. I am not happy about some having to drive tomorrow. Really hope that the storm has passed by then. I am stying inside, just as I and everybody else are supposed to. This photo is not taken here...but it sure is a very nice photo of a storm!

Vindmölla

Windmills are common here. I took this photo summer 2006 right after visiting a young artist in her little art store next to this windmill and the ocean. Usually the ground is much more green and colourful but the unusually hot summer effectively stopped that.

Nature reserves increasing

*stumbling again* I like the internet in the way that you might look for one thing and find a whole bunch of other things you didn't know about before (what I call positive stumbling). I like it at least...and I like to share as some know (too?) well ;-) This tiny thing is about Sweden getting 101 new nature reserves since last year. I am not only forwarding bad news, also good news. Progress is a nice word and this is progress in my eyes. The nature reserve is the most common form to protect the nature and it constitutes 8 percent of the area of Sweden, including national parks etc. it constitutes 10 percent of the area.

From the Statistics Sweden and Naturvårdsverket (www.scb.se)

"Skyddad natur 2005:
Allt fler naturreservat
Förra året fanns 2 712 naturreservat i landet.

Hmm...here I need some song connected to nature. The closest I get from the long list of youtube songs and other things that is suitable here is Fool's Garden's LEMON TREE :-)
