DAY of THE DAWN of THE BRIDESGROOM of DEATH

Do you like zombies? Well, so does a friend of mine (I hope so since he's one of them) :-)

From The Kingdom

Adam Leavitt: Fleury. Tell me what you whispered to Janet, in the briefing, to get her to stop crying about Fran, you know, before all this, before we even got airborne. What'd you say to her?
Saudi Aunt: Tell me, what did your grandfather whisper in your ear before he died?
Adam Leavitt: You remember?
Ronald Fleury: I told her we were gonna kill 'em all.
Saudi 15-Year-Old Grandson: Don't fear them, my child. We are going to kill them all.

Politcally correct? Not very.

Nat:
Interesting, when putting together a team of soldiers in a movie, they choose 1 Black, 1 Asian, 1 Latino, 1 European, 1 American...and 1 woman. As if women were part of a "minor" part of the earth's population, not half of it.

Anna:
I think they want to show that women have the right to have more husbands now.. men used to have 4 wifes in arabic countries because there were more women... I think the soldiers film message is clear ;).. I start to like it.. haha

Nat:
LOL I like your thinking Anna :D

Anna:
I knew you would ;)

Matrix & symbolism

For those who thinks Matrix is just a violent movie:

Red Dragon

Raised with scary movies (my mom and I spent long nights watching movies), Red Dragon (where Anthony Hopkins also acts as Dr Hannibal Lector) is a movie that suits me very well. It's well made, good actors and a good story. Anthony Hopkins, Edward Norton, Ralph Fiennes, Harvey Keitel and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I like tattoos even though one that covers half the body is too much for my taste, but, the one Ralph Fiennes has here looks really good (it goes all the way down onto his legs).

Highlander

Highlander, I must admit it was one of my favorite movies when I was little. I still like the movie although the series aren't as good as it was when it came. BUT, the intro has a good song. What i like about Highlander is them striving for mortality, not immortality. More thoughts on the subject eternal life here.

"Ideals are bulletproof"

Bruckheimer is a big republican fan

"[Jerry] Bruckheimer is one of the few Hollywood personalities who supports President Bush outspokenly. He has donated funds to John McCain's 2008 presidential election campaign. In 2007 it was reported the he donated 29% of his $20,700 in political contributions to Republican candidates [13]. He gave $5,000 to a joint fundraising committee on John McCain’s behalf."

"His best known television series are CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Cold Case, and The Amazing Race. His best known movies include Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, The Rock, Con Air, Armageddon, Enemy of the State, Gone in Sixty Seconds, Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor, Pirates of the Caribbean, King Arthur, and National Treasure." To mention a few...

Aliens come from Galapagos

Now I know where the creators of the Alien movies got their inspiration! I am watching a program about the Galapagos islands right now. They are showing the only lizards that are specialized on a marine life, the sea iguana. They live mainly on land but eat mostly green and red Algiers on the bottom of the outside the coast. After ten minutes in the cold water, they have to get back on land since their muscles get stiff when cold. When they swam but to the surface, they looked JUST like the aliens when they are swimming, with their arms, slim body and long tail.

What interesting islands with flourishing life despite the hard living conditions! I would like to go there some day and learn more about what it could teach us when it comes to species, change and evolution.

Star Wars 1

...is not at all what this post will be about. :-) I am back, from doing nothing special except from being busy both in practice and just having a lot to think about. I should take the opportunity to say something useless for you. My email. I am a member on three e-mail lists and becoming one on another one soon, all four in connection to Amnesty. One of them is a national discussion group where subjects of more principal and even philosophical nature are discussed and the others are more of practical nature. As the group secretary of my group and being active myself aside the group activities I have quite a lot to do but I like it.

Last but not least, Jar Jar Binks is not at all as funny as he was meant to be. The old movies were a lot more amusing. I don't know what happened to Lucas, I expected more, based on the old movies. Now the huge sea monsters are coming... man they are ugly! I told you, this was not meant to be an interesting blogpost :-)

American History X

That is a really good movie and I saw it again this evening. In the end, the younger Vinyard finishes his essay with the following quote. The Swedish translation did not use the word for "affection" but the word for "friendship" (vänskap).:

"We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.'

Mr Black

Jack Black. He must be the coolest geek ;-) Watching "School of Rock" and it just reminded me of other stuff he's done, eg. here in Tenacious D - "Tribute".

"Adaptation" & love

Nicolas Cage in the quite good movie "Adaptation":

"You are what you love, not what loves you"

Eternal life?

I live close to an old people's home and a very old man once gave me a nice little card with a few Bible verses (also Joh 11:25-26, 1 Joh 4:9-11). It is about God loving the world and that those who believes him shall have eternal life.

Joh. 3:16

If you haven't seen the movie "Highlander" och can't remember it, click here, a 30 sec version of the movie. It is about some people who have eternal life on earth. So the live and get to see their loved ones live and die while they have to wander the earth, not ageing a day. The only way to get killed is to be decapitated (halshuggen). They have only one, main objective in their several hundreds of years long lives and that is to win The Prize at the Gathering. The Gathering is the last remaining immortals meeting to fight for The Prize because it is only the last living immortal who can win it, "it can be only one". "The Prize, which is revealed to be mortality, the ability to sire children, and a telepathic/empathic gift wherein he can communicate with and influence the greatest minds or most powerful people on the planet." (Wikipedia) So what they strive for is mortality and having a somewhat normal life, and that goes for the evil immortals as well.

Reading the Bible verse that is put up on my wall next to articles and other things, made me think of the perspectives forwarded by the verse and the movie. It made me think of an open question...

Is there an intrinsic importance to have an eternal life, whatever the form of life is? I am not questioning whether there is some kind of eternal life or not, I am just wondering if it is good in it self and therefore worth striving for?

SiCKO

"This might hurt a little.
Get well soon.
What seems to be the problem?
For many Americans, laughter isn't the best medicine - it's the only medicine."

"Plot outline: A documentary comparing the highly profitable American health care industry to other nations, and HMO horror stories."

I haven't seen it yet, but I have a strong feeling that there is a person who I think should see this documentary. One I had a quite difficult argument with about this very issue. Difficult because I realized that the person wasn't the kind of person I had been given the impression of.

The Last of the Mohicans

Saw the last few minutes of "The Last of the Mohicans" and I realized that the beautiful melody that I always have liked is the theme song to this movie.

The Terminal

Oh, I have been sitting here tonight, all by myself, laughing very much...and not the least smiling. The Terminal with Tom Hanks is much better than I had expected. I like many different kind of movies and there are many that I don't like. Some make me scared in that "nice" way, others make me think, others are just exciting. Then there are the kind of movies that just make you smile for those small, silly, friendly things. The Terminal is just like that. I just couldn't stop smiling. I know somebody that as a kind of principal rejects all movies that are labelled "drama"...to bad. He doesn't know what he is missing (and yes Memma...you tell him ;-)))). hehe...
