My former friend - the racist (about Roma people in Slovakia)

An ok day just turned ugly. My heart was beating so fast when having this chat conversation with what I used to consider a friend/buddy from Slovakia. I have just shortened it a little and unfortunately I missed to save the first part of the conversation which included how this guy says that he thinks that Roma in Slovakia should die. His "arguments" for this are shown below. He also told me about how they stop buses by standing in the middle of the road to rob them and that they teach their kids to do the same. Another thing he said when I called him a racist is that he isn't one, that he likes white, red, yellow, black just not Roma people, as if they don't count when it comes to racism. I have now erased him from my list and have no intention to have further contact with him. Unfortunately this is far away from a unique opinion among Slovaks about Roma.

21:38M

in the school

and they never finish it even its for free

21:38Natasja

Do you say that they receiveeducation like all ther kids?

21:39M

yes

many

21:39Natasja

no

21:39M

oh yes

21:39Natasja

That’s a lie!

21:39M

that is not

21:39Natasja

they don't get education like everyone else....

21:39M

there are schools mostly around kosice

21:39Natasja

that just shows how little you actually KNOW about them

21:39M

lets call them white kids

they have to pay for lunch

at school

21:40M

they have to buy the books and pens

21:40Natasja

the white kids?

21:40M

everything

roma kids

they get lunch for free

transportation or dorms for free

books and pens and everything for free

and what happens

as i said

they dont go to school

if they go

21:41M

they steal from there

and they dont even finish it

what matters

?

education

last time they were trying to educate them

21:42Natasja

what kind of education?

21:42M

it was some kind of an american project

like 10 people from usa

they came

like how they will change them and teach them i dont know what

they came

after 3 days

they got robbed

romas took everything they had

even their passports

and americans went home

end of the storry

21:44Natasja

you're such a racist...

21:44M

milions and milions are spent on support of any kind for them

effect?!

nada

they take destroy and then they ask for more

21:45Natasja

so they are not worth as much as others?

so what? Slovaks steal and rob too? Did you think that slovaks don't??? In what universe are you living in?

21:46M

nope they are worth much more, coz others are working their asses of paying taxes

and they hardly survive from month to month

21:46Natasja

I am talking about human worth not fucking money

21:46M

of course slovaks do

21:46Natasja

so, what's you point?

21:47M

but we are talking about 10 percent top

21:47Natasja

so?

21:47M

in case of romas it is 95

21:47Natasja

you are nothing more than a racist

21:47M

slovaks are having 1 or 2 kids top

coz they can not afford more

but one roma 30 years old has ten kids

just to get the money from the state

that is all

and if that makes me a racist fine, i am a racist like everyone who lives in slovakia and is not roma

21:51Natasja

as I said, slovaks are infamous for their racism..

21:51M

well

too bad

go there try something teach them help them

change their mentality

and then we can talk

they live there coz they recieved nice house with appartaments

poor romas they live in the suburbs without electricity and water

that is not there

they had a nice house with water electricity

they were not paying for water nor electricity btw

21:57Natasja

I will end this conversation know. Bye

21:57M

they destroyed the house selling everything they could including water pipes

they destroyed the house selling everything they could including water pipes

and the house fell down

they said build us a new one

their ooown fault

and btw, i have rome friends, mother rome father roma kids roma.I know this family since forever. And they are great, but that is sadly those 5 percent i mentioned!

i dont have a problem with the fact that they are roma

coz they live and they behave like people

and they hate and they have the same oppinion about the roma u are so fighting for as i do!!!!

weird isnt it?!

bye

Vanilla car

There is a car in Central Europe that smells a lot like vanilla. I have a theory that the three vanilla scented things (2 trees and 1 other thing close to the ventilation) are there to cover up the dead man smell coming from the trunk ;-) But it's just a weird theory...

Steady As She Goes

The Raconteurs - "Steady As She Goes"
Heard it the first time on TV in Slovakia 2006. I loved it from the very first second. The video is ugly but the song is all that the video isn't.

Tightrope

Papa Roach - "Tightrope". I really like this song, in total I probably spent several hours listning to it while walking down the streets of Bratislava, Slovakia. It wasn't a live version though.

Lilacs everywhere

There has been lots of lilacs lately all around. It smells good but most of all it reminds me of all the lilacs in Bratislava! In a city that might not be perceived as very green, compared to other places, I must say that there are loads of beautiful lilacs everywhere. This picture was taken not long ago, here in Sweden.

Language teachers

It struck me on my way home today from my first Spanish class (evening class) that all the evening class teachers I know, from own experience or as friends, they are all very, very nice people! I remember the first one, McKena... She was my dear French teacher while I was in Mexico. She was adorable and always very kind and patient with me..and she gave me good grades for that matter. I am not 100% sure that I actually earned them but maybe I did. The second class I took (don't think I ever paid for it) was with my friend Gayle from Canada who had conversation classes in which I only participated in to have some company and to meet people. My sweet very curly Gayle who did NOT appreciate the useless bureaucracy where she worked (some place to help children), an opinion she shared with our friend Jennifer from Quebec (they were 24 and 25 at the time). I wonder what has happened to them since then... One conclusion I can draw from my friendship with these Canadians is that Swedes seem to have a lot more in common with them than with Mexicans, in general at least. So, except for these three I have a couple of other friends, who teaches in Spanish and English. I never went to any of their classes but one seemed to like correcting my mistakes. I guess that is what happens when hanging out with teachers:-) I hope I'm not making TOO many mistakes here in my blog at least. It is good when people correct you since it is a good way of improving your language skills even if it isn't all that funny being reminded of your flaws sometimes.

Yes, I really do like all of these language teachers... Too bad I can't meet them more often than I have so far.

Pride

Here is the movie that I think is so funny! Everyone has different sence of hunor and the things said and done in this movie is so good. Not that they are made to be comedie funny, they are just good and therefore funny in my eyes. It is not what I usually watch but I really liked it, it was better than I had expected. Remember that I had to sit in lower part of the cinema since there was so many people. It was one of the movies I didn't seeing by myself.

Pink

This is not really my style but the song is OK, not good but OK. I listened to it so many times last year. Mostly I had music channels on TV, hence few options. One thing is sure though, the song is much better than the movie. One day I was so bored, didn't have anything to do and the Pink Panter was the only movie at that time that I hadn't seen yet so the options were slim. I knew before I bought the ticket that it isn't really what I like and I was very right, I almost feel ashamed having payed money to see such a bad movie. Eg. I think that Pride and Prejucide is MUCH more FUN!!!

I love tea

I love tea! My beloved, big, white, tea mug that I always used while working. They just happened to have this mug. There was another nice one that I liked but it was already taken. The smallest woman had the biggest mug :-) It was made of glas and it was blue...but it didn't say "I love tea" so it still doesn't beat this one. Nowadays, when not working, I don't drink as much tea at all. As I have said many times, I'll never be grown up enough to start drinking coffee, so tea it is! Go tea! ;-)

What's the problem?

Sometime you just think of something that reminds you of something good in your life, a person, an event, a time of your life. I am as usually these days sitting and writing. Sometimes it is more fun to write the final words even it you are not done with the middle and I think I have found the "perfect" final line... A certain Cecilia once gave me a chance of a lifetime and I took it and I am very grateful for the chance I got. The experience gave me so much, some really good things and some really bad things (that still bother me and make me sad) but as another very wise woman always says, "there is nothing bad that doesn't contain something good". So I try to see the bad things as useful lessons. (the main one so far: Some people are idiots that you should stay far away from, they seem nice in the beginning but they are everytjing but...)

One thing I already knew (that has nothing to do with my bad experiences) was that people are stupid that think that "we" are so much better than "them", whether it is within Sweden or outside of Sweden. What is most important, to stay as you are and protect what you consider to be "yours" or to learn and appreciate also what is different from what you know and are used to? We are just one among many!

I think Cecilia is worthy of the final words in my text since she was the one givning me this chance which led me to chose a very specific subject to spend my final months in school thinking and writing about.
When I interviewed Cecilia some weeks ago, she spontaneously said "is there any antagonism?".

No guns?

Of course no guns! I don't like the fact that I actually saw this sign in a mall in Bratislava. I must say though that I felt much more safe in this capital city (at least in the center where I spent most my time) than in the small cities around here in Sweden, no matter what time of day or night.

Funny cheese

Slovaks like cheese, that's for sure. Not only fried cheese (mmm...) but also these in these shapes and many others. It looks spaghetti and a bun, but it is a little bit salty cheese.

Ice H fever

Both Slovakia and Sweden are ice hockey countries, maybe not the least Slovakia as far as I have experienced it. Not that I really care, but they are playing against each other this very minute. I hope Slovakia wins!
