The banana giant Chiquita was sued in November for about 5, 24 billion EURO (50 miljarder) for among other things killing and torture in connection with its banana production in Colombia. It is the relatives of the 393 murder victims who is behind the sue, according to Reuters' report. According to the accusations the banana company have financed and provided the Colombian paramilitary AUC with weapons. The murders are said to be performed by the paramilitary to facilitate Chiquita's production of bananas in Colombia."

Disgusting, allthough I knew that Chiquita had some dirty tricks going on in the 80ies. So, I hope the bastards will pay the price. Question is what "price" could be "high enough" for such awful actions? Besides, I wonder, is money something that settles this kind of crimes? Not in my opinion, but still, I'm glad they get punished in some way. Can't think of any other "better" punishment.
Using money as a way of punishing people (which all companies are made of) may seem "simple" and too little in a way but on the other hand, if they strive to make money, no matter the cost, then making them pay money ought to hurt. Then of course the people who made such orders should pay with prison time too. Ever seen Erin Brockovich? If not, I can recommend it. It also raises the question on how you punish companies that make people's lives a living hell or simply kill them slowly...that is if you can prove their guilt in court at all.
