Creative work

"Any creative work must be appreciated even if opinions differ" Very true! Appreciated yes, but maybe not always shown, depending on what it is... Some creative work that DEFINITELY should be shown to the world is what you find here. Even shown in the big apple... :

The best art ever :-D

One of my favorites:

When I Get You Alone

Robin Thicke. I love the energy this song gives me! For a long time it has been a classic in my mp3 player, specially walking through the city center of Bratislava on my way to work, giving me the that extra thing in the morning and putting me in the right mood for what ever I could expect after work. I hope it wasn't too obvious that I almost was dancing a little while listening to it and walking the streets :-)

Comments

Finally I introduce the possibility to make comments here. So here it goes...

To P3 & my nocturnal friends

"but NATASJA!"

I was called that today, twice, because I lacked some what someone think is generel knowledge (I am not sure that I agree though). That amoung other things described my day today and that was this night's winning contribution to the radios "Loggen". So they played Pink's "Stupid Girl" for me since I think that song describes my day, Natasja being a stupid girl. It was nice and the song has given me some of that extra energy I need to sit here this night and write to meet the deadline tomorrow at noon. One clear advantage living by myself is that I can dance/halfdance (on the floor or sitting in my big chair) as silly as I want to, even sing with my nonexcisting singing voice without anyone laughing at me because I look and sound ridiculous doing so :-D

Sometimes I complain that people don't listen to me...but I must say that P3, especially a couple of them working there at night, are very, very intelligent and nice :-D...hehe, because they do listen to me quite often, 3 times so far (to my surprice). They have chosen to read my opinion about smoking out loud once and another night they played the wonderful "Mas que nada" (of which I write more about in the post "More than nothing"), liking my reason for them to play it. The song made me bounce up and down and side to side dancing. Tonight they have made my night a bit easier to handle, me being very tired and all. I should add, even better than most other nights.

Vaken (Awake) is the faithful nocturnal friend to the Night Owl Nat that I dedicate this post to!

Thanks Mattsson & Peter of course :-)
Later...
Ps. They keep saying on the radio what I write...3 times they mentioned my name this night hihi. Except for the "Stupid Girl" they, of some reason, also mentioned my comment to them that I'd like to see that dancing in the studio that Mattsson did, then they forwarded my opionin about the Lund university main building being the nicest one in Sweden. I love passing it by, especially when the sun is shining and I have to many (?) pictures of it already. Hmmm..but they said one strange thing, that it looks like the White House...hmmmmm. Comparing the intellectual building to the building with the most dangerous and idiotic contents...

Eye to eye

...and everything in between.

With the eyes you see the beautiful things and you see the horrifing things, if you allow yourself. So many that refuse to acknowledge what the eyes see but what the mind and heart probably already know. I have spoken to some that just deny what "everyone else" knows (specially concerning critical things about how their country/government etc has handled and sometimes still are handling things). They pretty much say that they have confidence in those who have a lot to lose, prestige being one of those things, by admitting their wrongdoings or lack of will to change what is not as good as it could be and should be. More than they have trust in those that observe the descisions made and the consequences and objectivly see that laws are broken and innocent people hurting, groups that has absolutely no personal gain by telling the uncomfortable truth. Be proud of the good things but not of the bad things, don't think that something is all good all the time. In stead of denying it, do something about it or at least admit it and see the perspective of those who are on the other side of the barb wire.

With the eyes you can also see other's eyes and see how some eyes themselves are beautiful. Some just have those eyes that are magnetic! I have seen several of those rare eyes, especially during this last year and everytime I find it as fascinating!

To read more about the famous girl (a woman now) with the amazing eyes, National Geografic 2002:

Who is she...

"She became an orphan and refugee of war at about age six. Soviet bombing killed her parents, and her grandmother led her and her brother and sisters on foot, in winter, to Pakistan, where they lived in various camps."

"“She’s had a hard life,” said McCurry. “So many here share her story.” Consider the numbers. Twenty-three years of war, 1.5 million killed, 3.5 million refugees: This is the story of Afghanistan in the past quarter century."

"It is the ongoing tragedy of Afghanistan. Invasion. Resistance. Invasion. Will it ever end? “Each change of government brings hope,” said Yusufzai. “Each time, the Afghan people have found themselves betrayed by their leaders and by outsiders professing to be their friends and saviors.”"

"Now, consider this photograph of a young girl with sea green eyes. Her eyes challenge ours. Most of all, they disturb. We cannot turn away."

Pessimism

Why so pessimistic Natasja, someone just asked me. Well, I just don't know how to be positive when it comes to people who are really weird to me of no reason at all, not reasons that I can see nor that anyone cares to tell me about. So either there is something wrong with me reacting like this, or it is wrong with the person how choses to act that strange way. Either way, I lose¨...or so it feels like sometimes.

Good day

I needed this day, it was a good day with nice things in it. Too many days since that happened. Started off by going to visit an old Swedish diplomat for an interview that I need for school. Talked for 2,5 hours which is much more than I had planned for. It was very interesting and fun to listen to him speak about what he has experienced. So the 2,5 hours wasn't a long time since I enjoyed it. I look forward meeting and interviewing more diplomats and hear their stories and their experiences.

After I spent a while in a small red sofa, eating a tasty bagel with chicken, listening to the music palying in the background and reading through my notes. This while it was grey and rainy outside. 14.50 I went out in the rain, hurried to listen and see Margot Wallström. For those who don't know who she is, she is the Vice-President for the European Commission. She is very involved with environmental issues and that what was she was talking about today, smart growth! That is about sustainable environment development. She is a good speaker and had a lot of good points even if her speach was more or less general. After, I managed to get a photo och her and me together :-)

Her blog (in English of course):

At 16.00 there was still 2 hours to go before the Amnesty meeting was going to start but I went to the premises since I just might as well wait there. No point of going home since, too little time. The meeting started at the premises but we soon moved to one of the others kitchen close by which was quite nice. Had our coffee/tea and some saffron buns there while discussing all the matters. Even if I don't go to all the meetings (practial reasons) I enjoy being there. Nice atmosphere and nice people.

Strange week

Wow...this has been a strange week! Also confusing! Society of information is our time and what can I say, I agree. Not talking about the technology but the information sent and recieved, it is powerful. It has the ability to change a persons view of things and not the least people. Making you reassess situations, relationships, expectations and loose thoughts in general, or just deepen already ambiguous feelings. Just confirming that things are rarely what you think they are. Of course, this can be both good and bad, in my case, this week, it has been both and sometimes more to the negative side. Don't ever think that you know what to expect of anyone or anything. You'll just end up knowing less anyway. Looking at the bright side, you learn what not to expect. I just wish that I knew what to expect sometimes because it makes future actions, situations and feelings so much easier to handle. I don't like to be thrown of guard...at least not in some areas. This is what information can do to at least me...

Crime doesn't pay...

…nor does honesty! Who was stupid enough to think that honesty pay off?! *BS* Being honesty and open is the worst thing one can do. It is better to shut up and not wanting anything of anyone or anything. People just turn it against you. There are several situations, people telling you what to do when they don’t know nor ask for the whole picture, assuming they know what’s best for you and what you should do, or telling you that you are lying (both concerning “scientific proof” and my own experiences, who knows better than I what I do and think??) even it they refuse to use that word but it is clearly what they actually mean. If someone says that “what you just said is not true” I interpret that as the other person think I told a lie. I am not talking about the “honesty” that some speaks of, that is just saying what’s on you mind even if it’s something hurtful and unnecessary but the honesty of telling the truth and sharing and reflecting. BIG mistake and I keep doing the same mistake, just wanting to get to know people, make friends. Well, no, I do not appreciate people treating me as if I did something wrong by trying to share and/or improve things with all the best intentions! The older I get, the more confused I get. The more people I get to know, the more I appreciate the few I know I can trust. Instead of expanding the inner circle, the circle stays just where it is. I hope there are people out there willing to prove me wrong…one bright day.

Keep it superficial dear readers!

---

What is a lie?

According to some philosophers:

(1) Lying is a perversion of the natural faculty of speech, the natural end of which is to communicate the thoughts of the speaker.

(2) When one lies, one undermines trust in society.

(3) When one lies, one uses the humanity of another person as a mere means to one's end -- one bypasses the person's rationality and in effect makes a decision for the other person, instead of
allowing the other person to use her/his own rationality and make her/his own decision.
(4) When one lies, one uses humanity in oneself as a mere means to one's ends.

I should do like this famous man. He is the living proof that crime does pay and so does dishonesty! Maybe I would be more successfull in achieving my goals by adding as much dishonesty to my life as he has to his politics. He gets what he wants and people is happy to give it him! People simply hear what they want to hear, they rest they ignore...

My Darling, part II

This what Wikipedia has to say about the Doberman's temperament which give some background to why they are seen as they are (my own italics):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doberman

"The Doberman is often used as a protection dog, due to its intelligence, loyalty, and ability to physically challenge human aggressors. Dobermans are even now, and once more extensively, used in police work and in the military. The breed was used extensively by the U.S. Marines in World War II/.../ In these roles, they inspire fear. They are often stereotyped in such roles in movies (where they are trained to exhibit seemingly "aggressive" behavior), and video games, consequently many people are afraid of the breed. A related problem is the misunderstanding of their legitimate roles; because guard dogs are trained to neutralize unwelcome intruders, many people mistakenly believe that Dobermans are vicious.

However, Dobermans are, in general, a gentle, loyal, loving, and highly intelligent breed. Although there is variation in temperament, a typical pet Doberman attacks only if it believes that it, its property, or its family are in danger. According to a study done by the U. S. Centers for Disease Control, the Doberman is involved in human dog bite-related incidents less frequently than many other dog breeds. Those familiar with the breed consider well-bred and properly socialized Dobermans to be excellent pets and companions, suitable for families with other dog breeds, excellent with young children, and even
cats. Dobermans are often called "Velcro"* dogs because of their desire to be constantly in the presence of their human companions."

The allergy is still here and so is my desire to one day have this kind dog again. About cats. We had a cat during one period and when she ran away, Cheri got very, very sad and howled after her, in vain. My final words are that a dog is what you make it to be and if you only can handle it, a Doberman can be a very good dog. Don't be deterred of it's strong and intense appearance.

Organ donation

If you haven’t already done it, do it now. Decide whether you want to donate your organs after your death or not. You can use the green/red card and keep it in your wallet, or, you can make sure that no matter if you have your wallet with you in case of a sudden death, you can, just as I have, register in the computer system that the hospitals use so they always know your wish. In this way you also make sure that your beloved ones don’t have to ask themselves whether they should donate your organs or not and spare them those problems.

It is really easy to do it and takes no time at all and if you ever want to change your opinion, it is possible to change it. Click here and have it done!

This is the link for Sweden but no matter where you are, think about it and make sure that someone knows what your decision is.

Sweden in Slovakia

I just stumbled upon somethings I actually wrote and it ended up not just anywhere. I found my tiny reports on the Swedish government's webpage. One of my duties during the spring in Bratislava, Slovakia, was to write a few words what the main newspapers in the country wrote about Sweden. Sorry, my Slovak is pretty much non existing so Daniela, Eva and even Andrea sometimes, had to pre translate it for me. I am not going to translate it back to English but the main points are that Sweden is working to get rid off the oil dependence by 2020 and that we used 26 per cent renewable energy 2003, comparing to the average of six per cent in the EU, that the appointment of a male foreign minister (Jan Eliasson) is not a part of the Swedish tradition* and about the so called garbage police in Sweden. I didn't expect MY reports it to actually be shown, but it's fun :-)

* The new, present one is also new. Carl Bildt who is on a picture below.

February

May

My darling... My family had a Dobermann named Cheri for many years before I turned out to suffer from allergy to my dear furry love and others with the same trait, so we had to sell her. Cheri's real name (on the papers only), or part of it, was actually Amulett which has inspired me to use that name in different situations. Let me put it like this, she protected me like no one else ever has, she wasn't a watch dog for nothing! In a way, I probably was the baby she never had. Such loyalty, fun and beauty. I cried like a baby when I was told that she had died (she got sick) with her new owners, who had been really good to her. I still remember that day even if it was more than a decade ago. I loved that dog!

This is not Cheri, but might just as well have been and this is how I remember her, in this state of mind.

"they are relentless in pursuing a threat to their family. They are not easily deterred from their "job" of guard and protection, and take the threat on the family totally seriously, and will not give up the protest until assured that "it's all right, now"."

"He is focused on his family and wants to please and do exactly what they want him to do. He will bond and attach himself to the family and execute his role as companion and protector like no other breed can."

I always get mad when I see a Dobermann on TV because they are NEVER described in a positive way. You yourself can start counting the times when you see a dobermann when they are not described as a vicious killer dog. I have done that for years and the positive occasions are less than the number of fingers one hand. Of course this breed need a lot of attention and firm hand and is not for everyone, although that is not the reason itself that they are described as dangerous. ALL dogs are potentially dangerous if not handled in a proper way, even the small ones.

"If the Doberman is not trained, respected and properly disciplined---they have the capability of doing great harm to someone, even a family member. It is no different than a child that must be raised with rules and respect for the adults (parents)."

This is just so obvious that I almost feel stupid even having to bring this up!

More than nothing

Within the music business it is common that you borrow other people's song or parts of them etc. and sometimes they destroy the original but sometimes they actually do something good. As usual I'm listening to the radio and they just played Segio Mendez "Mas que nada" (hence the title of this post) with Black Eyed Peas (and making me and my feet very happy). Of course the original is 10 times better than their version, but it is quite good anyway but the best thing about it is that they make people aware of this wonderful song and this kind of music. It is old music that most people (in certain ages at least) never heard before and it is way too good to sink into oblivion! So thank you BEP for chosing such a good song to make yourself sound better than you are! ;-) (it's just not fair to compare BEP with Sergio Mendez) Don't get my wrong, BEP have done several songs that I find kind of or very swinging, "Pump It", "Hey Mama" etc. :-)

Another song that also was played is Hellsongs version of Run to the Hills (Iron Maiden's original). Although this version is not very good, it is slower and much too girly for my taste, a bad ballad. Don't be fooled by the name of the group. So this is an example of a bad version of an old song.

Tax cuts => cause of death?

"Brain damages as a result if alcohol has become the most common cause of death among Finns that are older than 34 years old according the Nordic Minister council. On an avarage the Finn intentionally get drunk 32 times/year, the journalist Markku Heikkilä writes in the Thursday's edition of the minister council's webmagazine Analys Norden. There he draws a very dark picture of the effects of the substantial taxcut on the alcohol two years ago. Between 20 and 30 per cent of the children in the area of Helsingfors grow up in homes where abuse, violence and crime is the every day according to estimates earlier this fall."

This I read in the newspaper the other week. There has been a discussion in Sweden about cutting the taxes on alcohol, not all but some, to make it more attractive to buy the alcohol in Sweden instead of going to other countries, e.g. Denmark and Germany, to buy it. What can I say, the reason of having these very high taxes on alcohol is not to be mean but of the public health. Why the results in Finland are so interesting for Sweden are the similarities between the countries, being Nordic and everything and therefore the politicians and media here follows the results of their political decisions. Still, is the result of this investigation surprising? In some countries the drinking habits are better and people might be able to handle it a little better, but not here, so the results are according to me expected. By the way, I read just the other day that people here are starting to buy more alcohol in Sweden. They are not a hundred per cent sure why, but they think that the charm of novelty faded. So should Sweden follow in Finlands footsteps?

Breaking news - UK

Since I got a feeling that most of you never care to actually read any of the articles etc that I link to, I will quote from an article in the Guardian that turned up on my screen.

"...excessive surveillance could create a "climate of suspicion."

"Current techniques include surveillance of international travel, consumer spending, internet use and mobile phones."

"It says surveillance can lead to the loss of individuals' anonymity and privacy in different spheres of their lives."

"In the future, shoppers may be scanned as they enter stores, schools could bring in cards allowing parents to monitor what their children eat and jobs may be refused to applicants who are seen as a health risk." (Remember what I wrote about Minority Report?)

""Today I fear that we are in fact waking up to a surveillance society that is already all around us.""

"Mr Thomas said surveillance could help fight terrorism and crime and improve access to public services. But he added: "As ever more information is collected, shared and used it intrudes into our private space and leads to decisions which directly influence people's lives.""

The short article can be read here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uklatest/story/0,,-6187445,00.html I just don't see the connection between the word "freedom" (which some constantly keep on refering to) and "surveillance"...and I who thought that freedom for many meant that THEY get to chose over their own lives, that they don't like when someone/something decide for them! Right?

Russia right behind me

Ryska lökar?
This is starting to get a bit silly hehe. Lately I hear and read about Russia all the time. People send me emails about what is going on there (Amnesty related), Russia is on TV, radio, newspapers, magzines for different reasons, including Anna Politkovskaja and the Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt who this year bought 2000 stocks in Vostok Nafta (that has large interests in the gas company Gazprom) which might not be very appropriate for a minister to have. He is also an ex prime minister when the conservatives had the power last time (early 90ies).
Today I wanted to check something out in my institutions webpage, but missed two letters. I was supposed to write http://www.svet.lu.se/ but forgot the “lu” and ended up here of all places haha… http://www.svet.lu/ See, Russia is following me ;-)

Background and intervjuw with Anna Politkovskaja (in Swedish):

Theory of Justice

Look what book I stumbled upon in my hunt for totally different books!

So why did Natasja take a picture of a book? Well, that you would know if you've read my other posts :-)

Voice = face?

I have been listening quite a bit on the radio lately. It has been good company while sitting most of the time here, at home, all alone, writing exams. I just got a whim and looked for a photo of the guy talking on the radio on the radios webpage. It is a little bit like reading a book and then see the movie. You create an image of what you know and don't know and it is rarely the same as what someone else have in mind. Straight off I can think of one figure though that I was very content with when I saw the movies after having read the books...Legolas (Lord of the Rings)...mmm... and btw, he also has a really nice voice, or should I say his English, the normal one at least. In the movie he unfortunately doesn't say that much. The funny thing about Legolas (his appearance) is that he is pretty much the opposite to what I usually prefere, othervise I have never really been interested in or thought of elfs ;-)

Did they do anything but taking pictures if him?? No wonder it took such a long time to finish the making of the movies ;-)

Di Leva

Why, oh why? Thomas Di Leva?! Why do so many people have to ask for HIS songs to be played on the radio at night? It seems like he has a new record, but still. Btw, did you know that his original name is Sven Thomas Magnusson?
http://www.dileva.nu/
Some quots from http://www.livet.se/ord/k%C3%A4lla/Tomas_Di_Leva :

  • The Free Will is constitutet in space.
  • He who develops his love here on earth, does not need to develop anything else. And he who does not, he belongs to the Riddle of the Sun.
  • It is not always easy to be from space.

...just to mention a few things, just to give you a sence of how he can be. He definitly not a bad person, it's just that he can be very, very cheesy sometimes. One should also hear him singing to to fully understand. A couple of different chorus:

Most things you can buy, but nobody can by life, nobody can by life, nobody can by life

Fruit, vegetables and water...aaaaaah, Fruit, vegetables and water...aaaaaah, Why cause pain?, Why cause pain?, When love is the only thing that lasts

Do blonds have more fun?

1 November, I got a SMS from my best friend (whom I also call(ed) My Light*) who is in Spain at the "moment" (or should I say months...). She wrote that she was outside in the lovely weather, wearing a skirt and a small top! Nice huh? I got out of bed and happened to look outside. Snow! Buhuu...

So my conclusion in this case is that blonds do have more fun :-)

Now I am going to dance a little bit to Bowie's Let's Dance....*singing along*

*I had a method of finding her in large crowdes: Look for the fairest point and you shall find her. It worked like a charm! :-)
